QR codes are everywhere these days. You can find them on posters, flyers, websites, products, and even business cards. They are a convenient way to store and share information, such as a website URL, a text message, or a contact card. All you need is a smartphone camera or a QR code scanner app to access the encoded data.
But let’s face it: QR codes are not very attractive. They are usually black-and-white squares with a boring pattern of dots and squares. They don’t catch the eye or inspire curiosity. They are functional, but not fun.
That’s why some creative minds have come up with a new way to make QR codes more appealing and engaging: AI generated QR code art.

AI generated QR code art is a growing trend that uses artificial intelligence models to transform ordinary QR codes into stunning artworks. These models are trained on a large collection of images, such as paintings, photographs or cartoons. They learn the patterns and features of these images, and use them to generate new images based on a given input.
The input in this case is a QR code image. The AI model takes the QR code and modifies it with colors, shapes, textures, and styles that match the desired theme or genre. The result is a visually striking and unique QR code that still works as intended.
AI generated QR code art can be used for various purposes, such as:
Branding: You can create a QR code that reflects your brand identity and personality. For example, you can use your logo, colors, fonts, or slogans as part of the QR code design. This way, you can make your QR code more recognizable and memorable for your customers.
Marketing: You can create a QR code that attracts attention and invites interaction. For example, you can use images that relate to your product, service, or offer as part of the QR code design. This way, you can make your QR code more relevant and enticing for your audience.
Entertainment: You can create a QR code that surprises and delights your viewers. For example, you can use images that are funny, cute, or artistic as part of the QR code design. This way, you can make your QR code more enjoyable and shareable for your fans.
How to make AI generated QR code art
There are different ways to make AI generated QR code art, depending on the tools and techniques you use. One of the most popular and accessible methods is using Stable Diffusion, an AI-powered image synthesis model that can generate images based on text descriptions or existing images.
To make AI generated QR code art using Stable Diffusion ControlNet , you will need to follow these steps:
Below is the steps by Rowan Cheung as he posted on his twitter account.
Step 1: Obtain your QR code
Start by searching for a QR code generator on Google. Numerous free options are available. I suggest using the first non-sponsored link. Input the desired destination link for the QR code redirection. Click on the “Download JPG” option and patiently wait for 5-10 seconds.
Step 2: Access Stable Diffusion
If you haven’t installed Stable Diffusion locally, you can conveniently access it through the cloud using the following method. Visit https://rundiffusion.com. Sign up and receive 7 minutes ($0.13) of free credits.
Step 3: Configuration
- Checkpoint: dreamshaper_6
- Sampling: DPM++ 2M Karras
- Scroll down, and upload your QR code to ControlNet 0. Enable it.
- Select “inpaint_global_harmonious” as the preprocessor.
- Choose the model that includes “brightness” in its name.
- Reduce the Control Weight to 0.35.
- Switch to ControlNet 1. Upload your QR code and enable it.
- Select “inpaint_global_harmonious” as the preprocessor.
- Choose the model that includes “tile” in its name.
- Decrease the Control Weight to 0.65, with a Starting value of 0.35 and an Ending value of 0.75.
Step 4: Enter your prompt
For my prompt, I utilized the following:
Prompt: masterpiece, best quality, mecha, no humans, black armor, blue eyes, science fiction, fire, laser cannon beam, war, conflict, destroyed city background
Negative prompt: UnrealisticDream, FastNegativeEmbedding
Generate your QR code.
Feel free to experiment with different variations by clicking on the generate button again.
